Our MissionThe Foundation for Glendora Unified Schools is a nonprofit benefit corporation whose specific and primary purpose is to provide financial support, facilitate community involvement, and enhance student learning for the Glendora Unified School District.

“FGUS is working towards the enrichment of your child’s education”

Glendora, the Pride of the Foothills, is known for its excellent schools. Chances are your decision to be a member of this community is related to its great school district and the positive and productive environment it offers for learning. GUSD works hard to improve our schools, but maintaining a high level of academic excellence in an environment of reduced state funding and lower student enrollment is a challenge.

FGUS is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to maintain educational excellence in the Glendora Unified School District. This not only includes fundraising, but also facilitating community involvement and enhancing student learning. Glendora is a unique district in that not only has it had its budget drastically cut similar to other districts, but it doesn’t receive the same categorical funding as other districts. For example, only three schools in the GUSD qualify for Title I funds, which are for specialized programs that help underperforming disadvantaged students meet state academic content and performance standards.

Glendora’s high property values do have a direct correlation to the quality of our schools, so it is important to maintain our educational excellence for the benefit of all our community. This is why an educational foundation is so important to our schools: it is the vehicle by which our school families and community can provide additional funds and volunteers to facilitate educational excellence.

The Foundation is a working group of parents, businesses, and other community members committed to providing financial support for Glendora Unified Schools.

Our History

In 2003, a group of parents explored the idea of forming a nonprofit foundation to work with the Glendora Unified School District toward the enrichment of education within the District. From this concept, in 2004, the Foundation for Glendora Unified Schools (FGUS) was established with the election of a Board of Directors and successful filing as a 501(C)3 Nonprofit Benefit Corporation with the State of California.

The Mission Statement of the Foundation is, “to provide financial support, facilitate community involvement, and enhance student learning for the GUSD.” To date, FGUS has raised and donated over $1.4 million to Glendora’s schools to achieve these goals.

FGUS Community Spotlight

My daughter and I are grateful to FGUS for rescuing the music program in our elementary schools. This program is not only enjoyable for students; it brings the arts into their lives through teaching them about various forms of music. I hope our community gives generously to the Foundation so valuable programs like this can continue to enhance our children's educational experience. Margerie C.
